Some Hi-Fi Myths

my hifi minisig

Firstly, my full system is online at Audiogon and PhotoBucket. Secondly, there are many myths floating around about Hi-Fi, so I'll try to explain a few here:

If you want to learn how to bias your valve amplifier go here. internal page

If you're having problems with the acoustics of your room, this Room Mode Calculator download might help ('xls' file so you need excel to view).

If you need better info/clarification, go to Audioholics and to HiFi Wigwam Forum.

Budgeting for a new Hi-Fi? Here is a simple budget to follow to get a well balanced system (works regardless of total budget). Copy the following list to figure out how much to spend on what:

♨ 30% on CD Player
♨ 3.3% on CD Interconnect (11% CD Player cost)
♨ 27% on Amplifier
♨ 2.7% on Speaker Cable (including connectors if used - total = 10% Speaker cost)
♨ 27% on Speakers (cost for floorstanders, otherwise Speaker (±sub)=24%, stands=3%)
♨ 6.3% on Equipment Rack (11% of [CD Player + Amplifier])
♨ 3.7% on Others (e.g. mains stuff)

The source component takes marginally the most budget. This is a rough guide of course, meant as a starting block...happy shopping !
